A Salt Cellar, Pinch Bowl, or Salt Box (Also known as a salt pig.)

These are stylish, practical way to store the most essential ingredient in your kitchen. Salt is undeniably the most important ingredient in the kitchen. It brings out the flavor of your food and drinks, adds texture, and can even be used as a preservation or cooking method (think preserved lemons or salt-baked fish). So why is such a crucial ingredient trapped in an imprecise grinder or shaker? Instead, try a salt box – it keeps the essential ingredient within reach and makes seasoning your food easy.

Whether you need a pinch of salt for a seven-minute egg or a handful for a pot of pasta water or a pickling project, it’ll be easy to access in this salt box. The design comes in almost any size – consider getting one for your everyday salt and another for your fancy sea salt.

Note: Some of our customers have used our boxes for hearing aids, rings, or other important items so that have their special place and are never misplaced.

FYI: A salt cellar is an article of tableware for holding and dispensing salt. In British English, the term is normally used for what in North American English is called salt shakers. Salt cellars can be either lidded or open and are found in a wide range of sizes, from large shared vessels to small individual dishes. Styles range from simple to ornate or whimsical, using materials including glass and ceramic, metals, ivory and wood, and plastic.

The use of salt cellars is documented as early as classical Rome. They continued to be used through the first half of the 20th century; however, usage began to decline with the introduction of free-flowing salt in 1911, and at last, they were almost entirely replaced by salt shakers.

Salt cellars were early collectible as pieces of silver, pewter, glass, etc. Soon after their role at the table was replaced by the shaker, salt cellars became a popular collectible in their own right.
